The
stage was set : The lights were lowered The Bluecats kicked up there usual
harp-driven storm much to the satisfaction of the audience who had been
waiting patiently for this moment. Andy Lee and his band blasted off with
“Juke” an harmonica instrumental done in typical Bluecat style with Andy
cutting riffs with a most passionate feeling .
The next song “The Right stuff” taken
from the c.d. with the same name is a more soulful but cleverly worded
song, and by far there most commercial to date.
The next tune is more in the "Sonny
Boy Williamson"style, and certainly one I`ve not heard before, it
contained the humorous line “before you complain about your women take
a look at mine" I later discovered that this too was an original
written by Andy Lee. An excellent use of dynamics on this track. Before
the track even ends they glide effortlessly into “Can`t help thinkin”
a real get up and dance number Rock ‘n ‘ roll style the crowd again responded
enthusiastically.
While
talking mid-set to Yvonne, their vigorous pursuer of band PR, she suddenly
dived towards the guitarist, Texas born Frank Shipman, with camera poised.
This was The Crawl in which he sometimes swings the guitar above his head
a-la Hendrix, [ a rare act ] Yvonne told me, so catching it on film is
as valuable as footage of white rhino! The dance floor was heaving with
a mass of pulsating body's. A most fitting climax to what had been a superb
set from the band. Beer flowed and a good time was had by one and all.
